Our sensory perception is a powerful thing. From the time that we are introduced to this earth, and up to our adult life, the senses play important roles for us. It is because of the senses that we learn the things around us; and these senses are the ones that help us grasp the nature of things in this world.
Self enrichment expands our senses in directions that we can hardly believe. We become aware of the minute as well as the big picture. We begin to feel the synchronicity of all things and the inter connectivity of the universe.
Think of the senses as our sponge that we need in order to live life to the fullest. The senses in the form of the sponge absorb every detail that we see around us- the things we see, hear, feel, taste and touch. And this sponge started to work when we are young and continues to work for us until our adult life. But more than these five senses, there is one important sense that everyone should be aware of. And once this next sense is properly used, and then its role will become as important as that of the other five senses. That other sense is called the sixth sense.
So what exactly is the sixth sense that can also help in educating and guiding a person and can help him in his self-enrichment?
The sixth sense can be used in self-enrichment too- and this sense works on things unseen. If the other five senses require the object to be seen before information can be processed by our brain, intuition doesn’t need to see the object. This kind of perceiving things is now lost in rubble of materialism, since people put a premium on what they can see. This is true for the western culture, where materialism is rampant. But in eastern cultures, it is a different story.
The eastern cultures are quick to use intuition to their advantage and quick to use intuition as a way to improve the overall health of the person. Intuition comes into the picture because this can help in perceiving the things around us. Using just the five senses in self-enrichment will not work and the mind may only play tricks on us.
The usual five senses may fail to operate efficiently especially if the body is not in top condition. For example, when we feel tired and sleepy, the mind can play tricks on us. It is for this reason why we need to keep our body healthy.

Stretch your arms and legs, bend your torso and reach for the floor with your hands. You can also reach for the ceiling with your hand or point to the floor with your toes. Some people go to the extent of including yoga practices in their self enrichment and stress management. This is entirely up to you. Yoga techniques often include meditation, a common stress management and self-enrichment activity.
Other stress management activities include reading books, listening to soothing music, having a massage or engaging in aroma therapy. Educating our mind through books is a tried and tested stress reliever. It all starts by evaluating ourselves, which a great start for self-enrichment. This can be done by jotting down the goals and we need to make that happen so that we get to reap its benefits. And that can be made possible thru proper exercise and diet.
Exercise and dieting is only the start. It is also important to focus on the immune system. A good immune system is an indicator of the state of wellness. A reliable immune system means a person can evade a number of health issues like Alzheimer’s, stroke and heart attack. But more than this, a healthy immune system can get us to live longer past the retirement age. What allows us to live past the retirement age is wellness and wellness allows us to enjoy what our source of satisfaction- work.
With self-enrichment and wellness, work is no longer an unwanted activity, rather wellness will allow us to get up every day and face work with a smile. Simply put wellness and our good health are directly correlated on how we participate in activities like this.
With wellness an important aim, it is important to constantly check the wellness goals plus the state of being and our mental capacity for continued learning, teaching and experiencing. Our mental capacity plays an important role too in self-enrichment with sharpness of mind being developed through the constant use of the mind when we learn and communicate. And sharpness of mind is an important thing since the effects of the sharpness of mind can be felt even longer than the benefits of physical wellness.
And knowing that we are physically well has its pros too. We can have peace of mind if we know that our body is in the right shape. Knowing that you have spent your day on self-enrichment activities like 20 minutes of exercise daily is an accomplishment in itself. Walking as an exercise worked for me, and I lost 74lbs and this improved my energy levels three-fold. In the end self-enrichment all boils down to continued wellness and our evaluation of our wellness. This is an investment that never goes wrong.
