Body fitness refers to sound mental and physical health developed through good habits, right exercise and proper diet. It also means the ability to face and handle the stress faced daily in life. Nutrition is the nurture of the body, maintaining health and function the way it is supposed to be. Providing the body with all the necessary nutrients, vitamins and minerals for it to be able to operate efficiently is a vital ingredient to overall fitness. Fitness pertains to the condition or state of the mental, spiritual, and physical health.

Fitness results when both mental and physical body processes are performing at optimal levels. And to achieve absolute body fitness would require more than just a trip to the gym or a walk around the bend. It involves self-enrichment as well. Self-enrichment is giving your life meaning. We don’t keep our bodies fit just for the sake of being fit.

Self enrichment is a vital factor that contributes to body fitness, and there are many factors to consider in body fitness. The intake of daily body necessities such as water, food and essential nutrients are the first things that come to mind. But how about the body conditioning to be able to deal with the daily pressures of life?

Physical exercise is a major activity in the achievement of body fitness. It is a critical element in maintenance and upkeep of a healthy body. Our mind, our physical being and our physical processes as a whole make up our whole body.

When body fitness is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is physical condition, particularly weight, body fat and cardiovascular functioning. But the body fitness is not just measured by heart rate and waist line.

How about the rest of the body organs? The Kidney, liver or the lungs, are these just as fit? And how can the entire body be fit?

Aside from giving our bodies the right amount of exercise, proper and adequate nutrition, and fresh air; we also need to obtain peace of mind, food for thought and sufficient rest. This is self enrichment. We need to replenish nutrients that have been used up and diminished.

The wise use of resources and understanding of body needs in keeping our body fit isn’t too difficult to achieve. We would do well to maintain it over the course of our life. You have to understand that nobody can abuse his body with impunity over the years and regain fitness in a couple of weeks. Bodies don’t get fit overnight.

Whole body fitness is the result of proper care and attention directed to the entire body. Body parts works in accord and in collaboration with each other. It has superior design than any other machine we have on the planet today, and more complex and powerful than what the latest technology has to offer.

Despite being deprived of its daily requirements, it can continue to operate for several days. It houses our mind, our heart and our soul. If kept fit, it does a perfect job.

Keep Your Mind Clear

Our sensory perception is a powerful thing. From the time that we are introduced to this earth, and up to our adult life, the senses play important roles for us. It is because of the senses that we learn the things around us; and these senses are the ones that help us grasp the nature of things in this world.

Self enrichment expands our senses in directions that we can hardly believe. We become aware of the minute as well as the big picture. We begin to feel the synchronicity of all things and the inter connectivity of the universe.

Think of the senses as our sponge that we need in order to live life to the fullest. The senses in the form of the sponge absorb every detail that we see around us- the things we see, hear, feel, taste and touch. And this sponge started to work when we are young and continues to work for us until our adult life. But more than these five senses, there is one important sense that everyone should be aware of. And once this next sense is properly used, and then its role will become as important as that of the other five senses. That other sense is called the sixth sense.

So what exactly is the sixth sense that can also help in educating and guiding a person and can help him in his self-enrichment?

The sixth sense can be used in self-enrichment too- and this sense works on things unseen. If the other five senses require the object to be seen before information can be processed by our brain, intuition doesn’t need to see the object. This kind of perceiving things is now lost in rubble of materialism, since people put a premium on what they can see. This is true for the western culture, where materialism is rampant. But in eastern cultures, it is a different story.

The eastern cultures are quick to use intuition to their advantage and quick to use intuition as a way to improve the overall health of the person. Intuition comes into the picture because this can help in perceiving the things around us. Using just the five senses in self-enrichment will not work and the mind may only play tricks on us.

The usual five senses may fail to operate efficiently especially if the body is not in top condition. For example, when we feel tired and sleepy, the mind can play tricks on us. It is for this reason why we need to keep our body healthy.

If we keep ourselves healthy, and we follow it with self-enrichment then we can easily process the information around us without fail.

Meditation is defined in the dictionary as “continuous and profound contemplation or musing on a subject or series of subjects of a deep or abstruse nature.” This contemplation of often focused of spiritual or devotional character. Meditation relieves stress and promotes overall health. It can be as simple as reflecting how the day went or finding joy within oneself. These self enrichment activities, as well as other mind exercises, serve to keep the mind fit and performing at optimum level.

Our spiritual habits and meditation patterns are tools to keep our mind fit just as we employ exercise and nutrition to keep our body fit. Our mind is a versatile and complex machine that can be overwhelmed and unable to function properly unless we employ self-enrichment activities and take the time to care for it.

The mind has variable intensity of operation or brainwaves. Different types of activities at different hours of the day produce varying levels of brain wave activity. This is a way for the brain to rest as it copes with the task of processing the different pieces of information received.

When we neglect to provide self enrichment activities, our mind does not get enough rest and is unable to maintain its fitness state. In the same manner as our bodies are unable to function properly if it did not have adequate sleep and rest, the mind also cannot function correctly if it does not have enough rest and attention.

Current alternative medical practitioners and holistic therapists believe that the energy that circulates throughout the body radiates vigor to the mind also. The mind is the control center of the body and the same energy going about the body is utilized by the brain to communicate with the body as well.

Breathing exercises, soothing melodies, candles and aroma therapy are enhancement we employ as we rest and allow our mind to replenish it during our reflection moments. These are not the only methods to keep our mind mentally fit. Self enrichment activities such as absorption of information through reading, and creative play and recreation stimulate our mind and contribute to keeping it healthy and fit.

Many mental disorders trace its origin to the lack of time and effort to keep the mind youthful and drawn to new learning. Self enrichment activities such as learning stimulates the mind to causes it to form new neural pathways which is needed to transmit information from the mind to the body and vice versa. This is also needed in the formation of new memories. We lose fitness if deprive the mind of exercise.

We must never forget mental fitness even as we strive to gain physical fitness. Often, we can hit these two birds with one stone. We can clear our minds as we take a walk. We can build muscular strength as we meditate. Self enrichment activities can be simple but meaningful. And the reward is fitness for both mind and body.

Managing Stress Through Self Enrichment

We can never really run away from stress even if we wanted to. Stress comes knocking at our doors even when we don’t go looking for it, and in many cases when we least expect it. However, we can learn to very well manage stress and steer clear of stressors.

Rushing is one of the major causes of stress. When someone is rushing, it’s always likely that he failed to draw himself a schedule or otherwise was not faithful enough to keep with the plan of life’s demands. If one is trying to elude stress and stressors, it becomes a sound choice to minimize or temper demands. When you are dealing with more than what you are adequately able to handle, you put stress in your mind and body. It is also wise to list down the tasks you want to accomplish and arrange schedule of its accomplishment. This is a common characteristic of self enrichment.

Although we can make certain provisions, we never really know what tomorrow brings. Those who think they do are setting themselves up for disappointment and failure. Self enrichment recognizes that life offers no guarantees and we should not expect any. So, we write down the tasks we intend to accomplish tomorrow starting with the most important one and proceed to work on it one at a time. Strive to live for today and not for tomorrow and you will find stress knocking on somebody else’s door.

Procrastination, especially when it leads to failure, is also a leading cause of stress. We avoid stress when we cease to put off what we are supposed to do today. Excuses often accompany procrastination and this leads to further stress. One who is constantly thinking of ways to defend himself loses time to attend to responsibilities and this in turn creates additional burdens. Self enrichment is having the mind to accomplish tasks in its due time.

We all have enough stress to contend with, whether we like it or not. What is now in our hands is the power and ability to reduce additional stresses that are waiting to get in line. We do this by self enrichment, by striving to complete the tasks and by standing pat with the responsibilities we took upon ourselves.

When we neglect to plan, do not prepare and exercise inadequate thinking, we come across tons of stress we could have avoided in the first place. Use self enrichment. Prepare every needful thing, plan accordingly, decide positively, think constructively and act responsibly and you will have escaped from stress.
